A certain number of credits in various disciplines must be met for a student to graduate from NSA. Click on any course type to be transferred to their course descriptions.
* If Modern Dance I is taken in place of Physical Education, the course is not counted as one of the required arts courses. This is the suggested sequence of courses for students who enter as freshman with no previous credits. This sequence is wise to follow, but is not enforced.
In grades 9-12 students must pass individual courses with a minimum numerical grade of 70 to receive credit. Class placement is determined at the beginning of the school year. Classification of students will be as follows:
Beginning with the graduating class of 2003, Nashville School of the Arts will name a valedictorian and a salutatorian. These shall be the two students who have completed the requirements of the Scholar Program and achieved the two highest grade point averages, respectively. Every student's rank will not be announced. The transcript is is an historical document of all courses taken at NSA. All grades, passing and failing are permanently recorded on the transcript. When a course is failed and then repeated either in summer school or during the regular school year, the new grade does not replace the failed grade. It will show both times the student took the course, and both failing and passing grades are added to the transcript and averaged into the cumulative GPA. Board Policy #5121.1 permits the exemption from semester examinations for seniors meeting the following critera: A. To be eligible for exemption, a senior must have maintained a minimum average of 90 in a subject with one of the three grades being 93 or above (no grade shall be lower than an 80), based on the three six weeks grades of the prevailing semester for which he/she is applying or exemption. B. The student most have attended class 93% or more of the days students are required to attended per semester. C. Have not received out-of-school suspension during the semester. Requests for exemption may be made through the Office of the Prinicipal.
